Best Airport Awards

A special focus on operational resilience and sustainability

This year our Best Airport Awards will reflect and recognise airport operational preparedness and resilience in gearing towards full recovery to pre-pandemic traffic levels, while focusing on the airport industry’s sustainability goals, in particular its ambitions and actions as regards decarbonisation in line with the Net Zero by 2050 commitment.

Airports are divided into five categories according to 2019 passenger traffic (under 5 million, 5-10 million, 10-25 million, 25-40 million and over 40 million) and will be judged on excellence and achievement in the areas of operational management, leadership and crisis communications, adaptability and resilience-building at every level of the organisation, staff training and best practice and commercial management, within the context of the airport’s sustainability strategy and financial recovery.

Accessible Airport Award

This award aims to recognise the most accessible airport for persons with disabilities and persons with reduced mobility. ACI EUROPE is once more partnering with the European Disability Forum this year to identify an exemplar airport in providing accessible services to travellers. This means managing their facilities in strict compliance with the EU Regulation 1107/2006 and going the extra mile in the quest to remove the barriers that persons with disabilities still face when travelling by air.

HR Excellence Award

Recognising that Human Resources management is crucial for the strategic development of an airport, this award aims to reward airport HR departments implementing first-class practices and processes to develop the industry’s workforce. Created in close partnership with the ACI EUROPE Leadership and HR Forum, the HR Excellence Award looks at various challenges facing HR directors and airport leaders, such as employee mobility, succession planning, training, wellbeing, change-management, sustainability and digitalisation.

This year, the award will focus on the social pillar of sustainability, with airport HR departments requested to demonstrate their projects and initiatives aimed at improvement in this area.
